T’was the Night Before Christmas, Durham Edition

T’was the night before Christmas,
So off to the pub.
But first a quick shop,
To gather some grub.
Up the hill we walked,
Feet shuffling below.
The wind was a blast,
But thankful no snow.

To the Elm Tree we hurried,
To get out of the cold.
Hoping to see our new friends,
Who now feel quite old.

Through the door we pushed,
For a warm fire and nice think.
Behind the bar stood Maddie,
And others with drink.

We settled in quickly,
Each night it’s the same.
Glanced around and saw friends,
And greeted them by name.

Happy Christmas, Tony and Paul,
Justin, John, and Alex, his pal!
Good to see you dear Simon,
Eamonn, Christine, and Al!

We shook hands and laughed,
And toasted the year.
But midnight was coming,
So Dave finished his beer.

In house with the cats,
We are now warm in bed.
Thinking of the year it seems,
There is much to be said.

To our friends and family,
And those we hold dear:
Happy holidays to you,
And peaceful New Year!
