National Quoits Championships!

We went to the Beamish Living Museum today to see the National Quoits Championships! Quoits is similar to horseshoes, with a few key differences. Quoits are round:

You throw them at a pin, but instead of sand it’s in wet clay so they stick when they hit.

Players take turns with points for ringers and closest to the pin. After each match players have to take care of the clay by turning it over (person in the background), stomping on it (person in the foreground), and keeping it wet.

The burlap is used to wipe the clay off them before the next throw. And yes, this was the National Championships!

We learned something new today!

  1. Amazing trophies. Cool that you were able to get that close (to a National Competition)!
