Our good friends, Sue and Rich, visited us during Easter week. We started in Durham and then headed back up to Scotland to see Edinburgh and St. Andrews, and play a little golf.
In Durham, we saw the Cathedral and Castle, including attending an Evensong service at the Cathedral sung by the Durham Chorister school choir. The Chorister School was formed around 1416 and still provides musical and general education to students here in Durham.
We also just toured a bit around Durham seeing the sights. Durham Castle was beautiful in the shadows and gray skies.
Next, we headed up to Edinburgh to see the city for a day. The weather almost cooperated….. Yes, that’s hail falling on us…..
But we also saw St. Giles Cathedral and some of the sites around the city. St. Giles is the heart of the Church of Scotland, or Presbyterianism.
All four of us are avid golfers, so St. Andrews calls! We took the train up for a couple of days to see the town and play a little golf. In addition to the golf courses, St. Andrews has a thriving University and some Castle and Cathedral ruins.
The cemetery at the Cathedral ruins has some important occupants from the history of golf. Most notably, both Old and Young Tom Morris are buried there.
When we joined our golf club, Sue and Rich were some of the first people we met so it was extra special to play golf with them at St. Andrews. Of course, the weather didn’t exactly cooperate again as it went from sunny, to rainy, to more hail, then back to sunny, with a rainbow! That’s hail covering the green!
And of course we walked around the Old Course a bit.
Sue and Rich in the famous Road Hole bunker!
Regardless of the weather, Scotland is always a beautiful place!
Looks like you had a great time in Scotland! Soooooo how was golf?
We wouldn’t have traded this time with Deb and Dave!! Thank you!!
