Knebworth, the Chili Festival, and Corn Hole

While in Knebworth we also went to a chili festival at Bennington Lordship Gardens and then went to see the beautiful house and chapel at Knebworth House.

The chili festival included lots of great vendors selling really, really, hot sauces and spices. Deb had to ask a vendor if they had anything she could try that “wouldn’t hurt”.

Oddly, there were also ferret races.

We didn’t actually see them as we were out and around the grounds when the big event happened. It was a lovely place with beautiful grounds.

Later that day we went to Knebworth House and toured the Chapel there.

Adjacent to the Chapel is Knebworth House. Batman enthusiasts will recognize the facade as Wayne Manor in the original movies.

After that we went to a great local brewery that makes Belgian style beers out in the middle of nowhere.

We spent the rest of the afternoon drinking beer and teaching our British friends the great American game of corn hole!

And we came home with a new friend, Walter! Our only Christmas decoration so far.

  1. I love Walter, he looks just like your dad! What is Walters middle name? I told you we were from England. Genetics prove true!

  2. Chili festival and Cornhole……………….. those two words shouldn’t be used together.

  3. Ahh, Walter’s middle name… Skip.

A skip is the British term for “Dumpster.” We were out driving when I looked over and saw a dumpster. At the top of the pile was Walter. Abandoned. Alone. Scared. I was determined to save him, but Dave and the others said no. I wore them down. For the rest of the day I told them about Walter’s story, how he was cast away, never to drive Santa’s sled. That he was calling out for help in the night (oh, this was fun…). The next day I convinced my friend (Dave didn’t know) to go home via the dumpster and pull over. She did! Against Dave’s protests I rescued Walter! A bath and a little love and he’s as good as new! And yes, HE IS COMING HOME TO ROCHESTER!

I take the animal rescue anthem of “Don’t Shop! Adopt!” seriously.
