Every year Durham hosts the Fire and Ice Festival featuring a combination of outdoor ice sculptures and torches. This year there were 14 displays located throughout the city. It was a beautiful day so we went for a walk to check them out! This year’s theme was the “Silver Screen” featuring sculptures with movie themes.
The Dalek from Dr. Who (very big in the UK)!

The Genie’s Lamp from Aladdin, including smoke effect!
Some displays were interactive. We saw them making a Toy Story display, and kids were asked to help out.
And there was one ice block with candy frozen inside that kids could try to chop out.
Another fine day in Durham. God Save the King!
Yeah, I totally want to freeze some candy in a block of ice and let my kids carve it out now! Hee hee!

I agree with your Joan, you’ve done/seen some great stuff while on sabbatical! Only a few more months to go-make the most of them.
