About 20 years ago Deb received a watch specifically with the intent of golfing with it – it was an Eco-Drive and powered by the sun. She has worn it 24/7 (including in the pool and shower – it’s waterproof). Rarely is it ever off her wrist.
We have spent time all over the US and abroad, and the watch has stood the test of time and travel.
Then, Durham happened…
For the first time the watch stopped. Heartbroken and fearing the watch was broken she took it to a jeweler in town. The jeweler kept it for a few days and placed it under a lamp. The watch started working again! The only answer is that there is not enough daylight in Durham, England to power the watch in winter. This lead to some investigating–
It is common for those of us living in Rochester, NY, to complain about the gray, overcast winters and lack of sun. So we looked it up:
Durham, England: Average sunshine hours for the year: 1,474.
Rochester, NY: Average sunshine hours for the year: 2,300.
With the Winter Solstice upon us, we looked into the receding daylight a bit more. Projected weather for Durham Winter solstice:
Cloud coverage: 89%
Rain: 0.3 mm
Pressure: 1001 mb
Humidity: 71%
Sunrise: 08:28 AM
Sunset: 03:41 PM
Looks like the watch is going to bed for a long winters nap… see you in Spring, Eco-Drive!
