Ushaw Historic House and Chapels

The Reformation changed the face of England and Scotland in many ways. Catholics were forced to flee to many places, including France. However, during the French Revolution, some of them came back to the Northeast of England. Ushaw Historic House and Chapels was originally Ushaw College, a Catholic seminary and College founded in 1808. It served as a Catholic Seminary and College until 2011 when it was forced to close. Now you can tour the grounds, gardens, and buildings, which we did.

This is not a castle battlement wall, these are handball courts.

Inside houses Chapels and many religious artifacts. The buildings and main chapel were designed by Augustus Pugin, who also designed the interior of the Houses of Parliament in London.

The garden boasts lovely flowers and interesting wooden sculptures.
