Durham Fringe Festival!

Every year Durham has its very own Fringe Festival! For the weekend there are multiple music, art, and theater events, so we went to a few.

There was Morris dancing in the Market Square with awesome outfits and accordions:

In the evening we went to the Shakespeare Festival to see Macbeth performed under a tent on the Palace Green.

Pretty good venue for a Shakespearean tragedy. It probably wasn’t planned but the Cathedral bells rang at several very opportune moments.

Next we went to Brancepeth Castle right outside of Durham for an Arts and Crafts Fair. It’s a Norman Castle that is privately owned and in need of a bit of renovation. So they do these events and host weddings to try to raise money.

Deb bought a rain hat from the nice haberdasher in the yellow wagon who sized it on the spot.

The Castle has a pretty little Chapel that is still used by the local residents.

There are a lot of interesting artifacts around the Castle…..

It’s not actually in use. We think the toilet paper is a bit of a “cheeky” joke.

This is a very big mechanical clock of some sort.

Later that evening we went to a show at the City Theatre called “Hauntiques”.

It turned out to be a mystical / magic show. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would have loved it. Houdini, not so much…..
